NEW RECYCLING PLANT NOW DIVERTING WASTE FROM LANDFILL Roxul Inc. is on track to virtually eliminate production waste going to landfill with the opening of a new $3 million recycling plant that reinforces the company’s ongoing commitment to environmental leadership. With the new facility now in operation, waste materials are being collected throughout the manufacturing process and safely reused in the production of insulation for commercial, industrial and retail markets. The new 10,000 sq. ft. facility is located on Roxul’s Milton site where the benefits are already being realized. “Roxul products have always led the market in environmental responsibility, with our natural-source raw materials, and a manufacturing process that allows us to recycle most of our waste,” said company president Trent Ogilvie. “It’s this commitment that earned Roxul the right to display Environment Canada’s Eco-Choice symbol on all our products. We’re proud of that accomplishment, and now we’ve gone another step further in our waste reduction efforts. “With the opening of the new plant, we can effectively reduce our production waste going to landfill from approximately 20 per cent to less than one per cent. We believe that’s a healthy investment, not only in Roxul, but in a cleaner environment, which is something that benefits all of us.” The benefits of Roxul’s waste diversion plant extend beyond the landfill reductions. By retaining an estimated 99 per cent of waste materials for onsite reuse, Roxul will realize significant reductions in raw materials and the energy required to produce them. In addition, recycling will reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions produced in the transportation of waste materials to the landfill. Ogilvie predicts the new recycling facility will eliminate as many as 500 truckloads of waste in the first year of operation. A member of the Milton business community since 1988, Roxul Inc. is part of Rockwool International, the world's largest producer of mineral wool insulation with 23 facilities in 14 countries. Roxul's products are fire resistant, water repellent, non-corrosive, and resistant to mold, fungi and bacteria growth.
