Roxul Safe 'n' Sound™ is made from non-combustible mineral wool so it does not burn and will not release any toxic gases. In fact, Roxul Safe ’n’ Sound™ is able to withstand the intense heat of temperatures approaching 2150°F (1177°C) without melting. It has been tested and proven* to add to the fire resistance of a partition wall and delay the spread of fire when properly installed. Roxul Safe ’n’ Sound™ can provide potentially life-saving extra time when minutes can make all the difference. For even better fire resistance and sound absorption, Roxul recommends the use of steel studs in non-load bearing walls.

Roxul Safe ’n’ Sound™ is an exceptional barrier to the transmission of sound from room to room. Roxul Safe ’n’ Sound™ insulation is 25% denser than thermal, exterior wall insulation and the higher density makes it very effective as a barrier to sound. In addition to the density factor, the non-directional fibre structure of each batt creates thousands of tiny, inter-connected voids. These voids trap vibrations created by sound waves that penetrate the wall. Once these vibrations are trapped the sound energy dissipates, significantly reducing the transference of noise from one room to another. To enhance the sound absorption properties of your partition walls even more, use resilient channels in conjunction with Roxul Safe ’n’ Sound™. |

Proper fit is critical for optimum performance. Ensure you have the right batt size for your wall cavity and take your time during the installation process. Once complete you’ll enjoy both peace of mind and peace and quiet for many years to come. Roxul Safe ’n’ Sound™ comes in two widths for wood stud walls and two widths for steel stud walls. Roxul Safe ’n’ Sound™ batts are 3" thick to ensure a 1/2" gap exists between the face of the insulation batt and the back of the drywall. This gap maximizes performance as a barrier to sound transmission. Roxul Safe ’n’ Sound™cuts easily with a serrated knife so you can fit batts properly and completely around pipes, electrical boxes and wiring. Always avoid ripping and tearing – you won’t save any time and you’ll compromise the effectiveness of your insulation! |
On interior walls vapour barriers are not required, however, insulation should not be left exposed. Drywall is the recommended wall covering. Gloves, dust mask, eye protection and loose clothing are recommended when handling insulation.
Wiring Score the batt with a long serrated knife at the height of the wire. Then cut it to approximately half the thickness. Fold the batt back and fit the wire into the opening. Push the batt into place. Plumbing For large drainpipes, make two cuts at 45° angles to form a "V" groove. Then slip the insulation into place. Treat small diameter piping as wiring. Electrical Boxes Measure the electrical box and cut the section of the batt out. Slide the batt into place behind the box and push it snugly against the sides of the box. |
Finishing the basement? Adding a home office? Building a home theatre? Installing a new bathroom? Insulating the furnace room? Building an addition? In all your home renovation projects, add an extra dimension of safety and security against the spread of fire by using Roxul Safe ’n’ Sound™. Not only will you have an extra level of protection for your family, your home will be quieter and more comfortable too. For complete home safety, Roxul recommends a planned escape route, the use of smoke detectors and the installation of fire extinguishers in your home. |
