When insulating your attic, install two layers of Roxul Flexibatt®. Fill the space between the joists with one layer, ensuring that the batt surface is level with the tops of the joists. Lay the second layer on top, perpendicular to the first layer, across the tops of the joists. When properly installed, Flexibatt® ensures maximum R-value with no air gaps that can reduce R-value. |

 Fit is the most important factor in getting full R-value for your money. Flexibatt®, with its exclusive flexible edge, is designed to deliver a better fit. Simply push the flexible edge against the stud, insert the batt into the cavity and release it to expand firmly against the opposing stud. The flexible edge also compensates for normal variations in stud centres. Due to unique density, structural integrity and water repellent qualities, Flexibatt® insulation batts will not slump, gap or curve once in place. |
When installing any exterior wall thermal insulation a vapour barrier is required. It must be applied directly to the wall studs on the interior side of the wall between the insulation and the interior wall finish (usually drywall). Gloves, dust mask, eye protection and loose clothing are recommended when handling insulation.
Wiring
Score the batt with a long serrated knife at the height of the wire. Then cut it to approximately half the thickness. Fold the batt back and fit the wire into the opening. Push the batt into place.
Plumbing
For large drainpipes, make two cuts at 45° angles to form a "V" groove. Then slip the insulation into place. Treat small diameter piping as wiring.
Electrical Boxes
Measure the electrical box and cut the section of the batt out. Slide the batt into place behind the box and push it snugly against the sides of the box. |
Roxul Flexibatt® is very easy to cut and work with. Using a long knife with a serrated edge (a bread knife works very well) batts can be cut and shaped to fit around windows and doors, into tight corners and in less-than-full-width cavities. Tearing off pieces of insulation and packing them in to fill gaps and spaces has very little insulating value and will, in fact, reduce the R-value. Taking the extra time to do the job properly will result in maximum performance for many years to come. |
