We don't meet standards, we set them!
As with all Roxul products, Roxul DrainBoard is designed and manufactured, not just to meet existing building code requirements and minimum standards, but to exceed them. What the competition is satisfied to achieve, we use as our starting point.
  • Less than 0.25% moisture absorption ASTM E96
  • Compressive resistance 17 KPA at 10% deformation, 40 KPA at 25% deformation ASTM C165

Uniform, convenient and easy to handle
To minimize waste and, at the same time, maximize convenience, efficiency of shipping and transportation, and ease of handling, Roxul DrainBoard is available in both 4'x3' and 4'x6' sheets.


  • 1 1/2" (40 mm) concrete nails with 3/4" (19 mm) washers
  • Bakor Poly Bitume Sealing Compound
  • Bull Dog Wet Stick
  • Dap All-Purpose Construction Adhesive or equivalent.



Easy to handle
Despite its high density, Roxul DrainBoard is lightweight and very easy to work with. It cuts easily to very precise tolerances and shapes with a sharp knife.
Biologically safe
Roxul DrainBoard does not encourage the growth of fungi, mold or bacteria that can seriously impair product performance. Furthermore, it will not rot or sustain vermin.



The structure of the wool
The key to Roxul DrainBoard's superior compressive and tensile strength is the random orientation of the fibres. This creates a non-directional structural mass which, in turn, ensures a high degree of rigidity in the finished product.
About 1/5th the size of a human hair in reality, this magnified sample of Roxul mineral wool fibre clearly demonstrates the interlocking structure which generates the materials strength as well as the water-repellent coating.


  • Roxul DrainBoard must be installed over code approved damp proofing material.
  • Apply Roxul DrainBoard sheets either horizontally or vertically to the foundation wall, ensuring that sheets are tightly butted together. Joints do not require caulking.
  • Fasten Roxul DrainBoard sheets using approved nails with washers. Place fasteners 4" from the sides of the sheet, one at each corner. If using an adhesive, follow the manufacturers application instructions.
  • Roxul DrainBoard sheets may be cut to fit around windows or other irregularities providing that all below grade details, exposed to the soil are caulked along the line where Roxul DrainBoard material flushes with the foundation.
  • Seal the top of the installation at grade level with a bead of construction grade caulking. This is to prevent soil from becoming trapped behind the sheets during backfill operations.
  • Backfill operations can commence immediately after Roxul DrainBoard is installed, year round. If using an adhesive in place of mechanical fasteners please consult the manufacturers instructions for recommended setting time.
  • Ensure finished grade is within 3" of the top of the Roxul DrainBoard sheets.
