Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design or LEED® for Homes is a consensus-based system for rating the design, construction, and certification of the world’s greenest homes. A green home uses less energy, water and natural resources, creates less waste, and is healthier and more comfortable to for the occupants. Both the USGBC and the CaGBC administer the LEED® for Homes rating system in the pursuit of creating environmentally responsible and more sustainable homes.
The LEED® Homes rating system measures the overall performance of the home through the accumulation of points across eight categories:

One of four performance tiers - Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum – will be awarded to the home according to the number of points accumulated once the homes construction is complete.
