Environmental Policy

The environment has always been a top priority for Roxul Inc. We demonstrate our commitment to the environment through our eco-friendly insulation products and the green manufacturing processes we use to make them.

*We constantly strive to reduce our consumption of raw materials and conserve energy in manufacturing our products. In fact, our manufacturing facilities have comprehensive environmental management systems including advanced recycling technologies at both plants. We are also active members of several green organizations working towards sustainable development and a greener, healthier planet. 

Green Manufacturing & Corporate Citizens

Recent upgrades at both Roxul Grand Forks and Milton have furthered our green initiatives. In 2008, Rockwool International invested $13 million in emissions upgrades at Grand Forks. And in Milton, Rockwool invested $150 million for a production expansion that exceeds the environmental standards of the Province of Ontario.

In addition to consistently upgrading facilities, Roxul Inc. employs several policies to consistently make our products better and make the world a better place. Here are some interesting facts about Roxul and our insulation:

• Energy used in manufacturing is recovered within three weeks of installation
• We recycle our waste and with our new line in Milton, we'll deliver zero waste to landfills
• Water in our production process is collected and reused, reducing consumption by 50%
• Storm water is collected for use in the production process
• Our products contain a minimum of 75%* recycled materials
• Recycled heat from our process is used to heat the factories and warehouses
• Our facilities use energy-efficient lighting
• Our premises have a no-idling policy for vehicles to minimize pollution
  

Being “Green” is contagious, and Roxul realizes that developing sustainable solution is both a huge priority for us, and the many key business partners we choose to work with.  As one of Canada's largest transportation companies, Bison Transport recognizes the responsibility they have to their customers and to society as a whole when it comes to transportation sustainability.

Bison has invested heavily to become an industry leader in this area and reducing the amount of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) they emit into the atmosphere for every mile they travel.

In 2010, Bison moved 2,285 truck loads for Roxul, totaling 1,397,421 miles traveled. Together Roxul/Bison saved approximately 1,146,894kg of Greenhouse Gas Emissions in transportation efforts alone.

Green Memberships

As part of our ongoing commitment to the environment, Roxul actively participates in numerous industry and government initiatives aimed at environmental progress. We are members of the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) and involved in several projects that nurture the growing energy efficiency movement.

Roxul Inc. is also a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and the Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC). Both organizations are leading the way in pursuing environmentally responsible and more sustainable buildings and development in North America. These green councils have voluntary industry rating systems in place known as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design or LEED® to recognize and distinguish builders pursuing environmentally sound building projects.
