Make Roxul® Roofing Products the Non-Combustible Insulation of Choice for Your Roof.

Milton, ON – October 4th, 2010 – It is now official! FM Approvals has released its revised Approval Standard for Single-Ply, Polymer-Modified Bitumen Sheet, Built-Up Roof (BUR) and Liquid Applied Roof Assemblies for use in Class 1 and Noncombustible Roof Deck Construction, namely FM4470.

Within the revised Standard there is now an optional rating under section 4.9 that calls out NCC (Non-Combustible Core) Rated Roof Insulation.  This optional rating makes it feasible to differentiate Class 1 Assemblies with Combustible Insulation such as Polyisocyanurate or EPS as examples versus Non-Combustible Insulations like Roxul’s own line of Stone Wool Insulation known as Roxul TopRock™.

This move by FM Approvals to revise Approval Standard 4470 allows specifiers looking to incorporate NCC in their roofing designs to do just that.  Including the optional rating in their respective designs will ensure that Building Owners, Contractors, Building Occupants, and others enjoy the benefits of a completely non-combustible roofing assembly.

“Hats off to FM Approvals for recognizing the optional use of non-combustible materials in this revised FM 4470 standard” says Trent Ogilvie, President Roxul Inc.  Mr. Ogilvie goes onto state that “the use of non-combustible materials in the construction of the structures where we live, work and play is simply a good building practice and there are numerous performance, safety and environment benefits derived from doing so”.

Roxul encourages all specifiers to consider FM 4470 NCC on all future projects.
