GLOBAL LEADER IN INSULATION INTRODUCES NEW FIRE AND MOISTURE RESISTANT PRODUCTS TO UNITED STATES
For the first time, American homeowners can find Roxul insulation products on retail shelves
Atlanta (July 13, 2009) - Roxul Inc., the North American operation of the world’s largest producer of stone wool insulation, Rockwool International, has introduced its globally successful residential insulation products to the United States for the first time. Both Roxul® Safe’n’Sound™, an acoustical insulation for interior walls, and Roxul® ComfortBatt®,a superior thermal insulation for exterior walls, are fire resistant, water repellant and made from stone.
Unlike other insulations currently available to consumers, Roxul Safe’n’Sound and Roxul ComfortBatt are made of stone wool, a combination of natural basalt rock and recycled slag, a mineral by product of smelted ore. Stone wool’s unique characteristics give homeowners an added level of comfort and safety, while providing the benefits of superior thermal and acoustical insulation
Fire Resistant - Stone wool has excellent fire resistant qualities which can delay the spread of fire - and during a fire, every second counts. Roxul stone wool insulation is non-combustible and can withstand temperatures up to 2150ºF (1177ºC).
Water Repellant - Roxul insulation repels water, so R-value is not affected. It is also completely resistant to rot, mildew, mold and bacteria growth – contributing to a safer indoor environment. Becase Roxul insulation does not absorb water, it will not sag or lose its shape, and will retain its R-value indefinitely.
Sound Absorbent – The unique non-directional structure of Roxul insulation’s stone wool content is denser than traditional insulations. This effectively reduces airflow and sound transmissions. Higher air flow resistance means better sound reduction.
Saves Energy – An exceptional thermal insulator, stone wool helps a home stay warmer in winter and cooler in summer. That also translates into reduced heating and air conditioning costs – and a house that is easier on the environment. When properly installed, Roxul saves 128 times more energy than was used for its production, transport and disposal. Roxul stone wool insulation qualifies for applicable government rebate programs.
Ease of Use –Roxul stone wool insulation can easily be cut with a serrated blade, even a bread knife, a benefit any DIY-er or contractor will surely appreciate. This allows for optimal fit around electrical boxes, wiring, plumbing and ductwork. The result is better R-valueand maximum sound absorption and fire protection.
Roxul offers two distinct typesof fire-resistant insulation to make every room in a home more energy-efficient,quietand safe.
Roxul ComfortBatt isthermal insulation for use in exterior walls, attics and crawlspaces and basements. It provides consistent, comfortable indoor temperatures and energy savings throughout the year. At R15 for 2x4” construction and R23 for 2x6” construction, Roxul ComfortBatt provides improved levels of energy efficiency, and creating a comfortable indoor environment.
Roxul Safe’n’Sound is soundproofing insulation for use in interior walls, ceilings and floors. Safe’n’Sound provides an additional layer of protection and comfort while minimizing noise transfer due to its high density and non-directional fiber makeup. Safe‘n’Sound is ideal for installation in the interior walls of a home and is perfect for soundproofing a bathroom, bedroom, home theater, laundry room, nursery or recording studio.
Whether building or renovating, Roxul Safe ‘n’ Sound and Roxul ComfortBatt are smart choices for home insulation. Roxul insulation products can be found at major lumber retail suppliers across the United States. "This state-of-the-art plant also symbolizes the commitment to green growth of our parent Rockwool International and the support of the Ontario government."
The two-year expansion project was aided by a $10-million interest-free loan from the province's AMIS (Advanced Manufacturing Investment Strategy) program. "We are committed to supporting innovative Ontario bussinesses that help us live more sustainably, contribute to the new green economy, and create jobs for Ontario families," said Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.

The Milton plant will recycle all waste products and deliver zero waste to landfill, reuse water in its production process and recycle heat from manufacturing to heat the factory and warehouses.
The Milton expansion was conducted in cooperation with the Town of Milton, Industry Canada, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the Regioinal Municipality of Halton, and the Ministry of Environment.

Roxul® Introduces new MonoBoard™ Insulating Roof Cover Board
Offers Application Versatility that is Cost-Effective and Eco-Friendly
Milton, ON - May 27, 2009 - Roxul Inc. recently introduced its new Roxul MonoBoard™ product to the North American market. Roxul MonoBoard™ is a rigid, mono-density, roof cover board that provides superior insulating value to conventional cover boards and offers tremendous versatility. It’s designed to be installed over all types of insulation boards, roof decks, and vapor barriers. MonoBoard™ is also well suited for use in recover projects over
existing membranes because of its ability to conform to substrate irregularities without cracking or breaking.
Roxul MonoBoard™ is made from a combination of natural stone and recycled material. As a result, it is stable, fireresistant and water-repellent. Those eco-friendly ingredients also make MonoBoard™ a green product that is ideal for contractors requiring environmentally responsible roofing materials to create sustainable buildings economically.
“We’re very pleased to make this product available to the North American roofing industry. A cover board that delivers stability, R-value and fire protection is a tremendous combination - especially one that also earns LEED® credits for green building projects,” says Brian LeVoguer, Roxul’s Vice President of Roofing & Sandwich Wall Panels. “Our MonoBoard™ and MonoBoard™ Plus with bitumen coating, are extremely versatile. They’re compatible
with all roofing systems regardless of whether they have a torched, mopped, cold applied, adhered, or mechanically fastened membrane. And, of course, they’re extremely easy to install.”
Exceptional Dimensional Stability
Unlike other insulating materials, MonoBoard™ is unaffected by fluctuating temperatures. Its exceptional dimensional stability eliminates stresses on the roofing membrane for superior R-value and long-term thermal performance.
Fire-Resistant & Water Repellent
Like all Roxul products, MonoBoard™ is non-combustible, creating a superior fire barrier both during and after construction. Able to withstand the heat of flames up to 2150˚ F (1177˚ C) without melting, Roxul MonoBoard™ provides an excellent line of defence for commercial and industrial roofs. Roxul insulations also repel water, so they won’t rot, corrode or promote fungi. MonoBoard™ actually dissipates any trapped water vapor to equalize pressure and minimize membrane blisters.
Eco-Friendly
Roxul insulations are created using natural, inorganic materials with a high-recycled content. They are noncombustible, are HCFC-free, and do not contain blowing gases which helps the environment and contributes to sustained, long-term thermal performance.

WHEN MINUTES MATTER, PROTECT WHAT MATTERS MOST WITH ROXUL SAFE ‘N’ SOUND™
During a house fire, extra minutes are indispensable and can save lives. Roxul Safe ‘n’ Sound is made from a non-combustible stone wool which is able to withstand the intense heat of flames approaching 1177ºC without burning or releasing toxic gases. When properly installed, Roxul Safe ‘n’ Sound has been proven to add fire resistance to your home . There is also the added benefit of potentially reducing property damage. By slowing the spread of flames, Roxul Safe ‘n’ Sound gives fire fighters extra time to arrive and extinguish a fire.
In addition to being an excellent barrier against the spread of flames, Roxul Safe ‘n’ Sound is also an excellent barrier against the transmission of sound from room to room due in part to its non-directional fiber structure and the density of the Roxul batt. Noise pollution has been proven to have negative health effects; Roxul Safe ‘n’ Sound increases the comfort and calm of your home by helping to stop the sounds of the television, video games, music, appliances, hobbies and conversation from traveling throughout the house. The following tips, when using Roxul Safe ‘n’ Sound can help to maximize sound absorbency:
- Because sound will travel through ductwork, insulate around ductwork where possible and avoid back-to-back duct openings
- If gypsum is double layered, stagger the joints
- Use an acoustical caulking or neoprene strip between the baseplate of the wall and the floor
- If using pot lights, use certified insulating boxes that allow Roxul Safe ‘n’ Sound to be maximized around them
Roxul Safe ‘n’ Sound offers excellent fire resistance and works as a sound barrier in your home. It is also water resistant, and does not support the growth of mold or mildew.
Roxul Safe ‘n’ Sound is designed to be used in interior walls and floors where a thermal barrier is not required. It’s ideal for a rec room in the basement, home theatre, home office, new bedroom, bathroom, main floor laundry room, or full addition. Roxul Safe ‘n’ Sound offers that important added layer of protection and comfort for the interior walls and floors in your home.
All Roxul products, as well as the advanced technology used to make them, are completely CFC and HCFC free. All Roxul mineral wool insulation is made from a combination of natural rock and at least 40% recycled material. Roxul Safe ‘n’ Sound meets the highest standard for indoor air quality – GreenGuard’s™ Certification for Children & Schools.
