Roxul® Roofing Insulation - Key Benefits
Roxul insulations are created using natural, inorganic materials; mainly basalt rock and steel slag. The products are non-combustible and are Hydrocarbon-free, which helps the environment. Stone wool insulation achieves its thermal performance mainly due to its mass. Our products also do not contain blowing agents which off-gas into the environment.
Fire-safe Insulation. It Won’t Burn! Stone wool roof insulation is non-combustible, and meets the requirements for the FM Approvals “NCC (Non-combustible Core) Rated Roof Insulation” rating. It will therefore not add fuel to an existing fire, as most other insulation materials will.
- Extremely high melting point of 1177°C (2150°F)
- Does not produce smoke or toxic gases in the event of a fire
- Excellent barrier against the spread of flames to help protect occupants and reduce property damage
- Eliminates the risk of the insulation accidentally catching fire during installation

| FM Approvals Issues a Revised Approval Standard FM 4470 NCC, APRIL 2010 Class 1 fire rated roof construction approvals do not allow differentiation between combustible and non-combustible insulation products. Revised Standard allows for this differentiation under the optional NCC(non-combustible core) section 4.9 of the standard. Stone Wool is the only Class 1 Roofing Insulation that meets the requirements for this optional NCC approval. · Industry standards in support of unique Stone Wool insulation properties · An upgrade option to your Class 1 assembly · Performance without compromise · Added protection for buildings & businesses · Sustainable & energy efficient design · Peace of mind |
Dimensional Stability & R-Value – What You Need to Know. Unlike other insulating materials, both TopRock® DD and MonoBoard™ are unaffected by fluctuating temperatures. The exceptional dimensional stability of these products eliminates stresses on the roofing membrane for superior long-term thermal performance.
- Stone wool is thermally stable and maintains its R-value over time
- No permanent shrinkage due to off-gassing
- No thermal expansion/contraction due to temperature variance
- No warping or curling over time
- Life-cycle costing becomes more definitive

High Impact – High Performance. Let it Hail! Heavy traffic and equipment, as well as environmental factors such as hail, can severely compromise the dimensional stability and thermal integrity of the roof system. TopRock® DD and MonoBoard™ have an exceptionally high tolerance for point load impact versus other roofing insulation materials*.
- Absorbs impact without cracking, crushing, or severely denting the insulation material
- Effectively reduces the risk of damage, and the related costs for repair and
replacement of roofing insulation and/or other materials

* Impact resistance testing with thermoplastic single-ply membranes over TopRock DD & MonoBoard resulted
in less damage than other common insulation and coverboards
Minimizing Noise with Superior Sound Absorption Roxul® stone wool insulation products demonstrate superior sound reduction characteristics. The unique non-directional structure is denser than traditional insulations. This effectively reduces airflow and sound transmissions for excellent sound reduction.
- Non-directional fiber structure traps and dissipates sound waves reducing noise transmission into or out of the building

Repels Water for consistent Thermal Performance Roxul® insulation does not absorb water; however, it is vapor permeable, which enables built up moisture to disperse within the insulation, effectively managing stresses on the membrane from changes in temperature.
- Prevents the formation of blisters and ridging caused by built up moisture, which can lead to leaks and premature failure of the roofing membrane
